Leave me an anonymous reply with the following:

1. One secret.
2. One compliment.
3. One non-compliment.
4. One love note.
5. Lyrics to a song.
6. How old you are.
7. How long we've been friends.
8. And a hint to who you are.

Somehow I am in the mood for memes.
I regret doing the prompts so soon after Friday.

5. Lie there, lie there, little Henry Lee, til the flesh rots from your bones...for the girl you had in that merry green land can wait forever for you to come home...
6. 32

Your diction bemuses me. Yet you perhaps speak of... Mattie? I should like to know the song, when I know your identity. It seems fine and old. I thought I knew my friends. 32. Who is 32 I wonder. I am sorry to have to say it, but I do need a hint.

Anson? 32 is a hint, perhaps. We still wish to know about the song, if you would be so kind.

Yeah, you got me. *grins* Pretty good guess, too. Sorry I was slow coming back with a hint, I was trying to think of one that wouldn't give me away, but you're just too quick for me, Doctor Holliday.

The song is called "Henry Lee". I believe it's a traditional song. The version I heard was by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds featuring PJ Harvey. It's a beautiful, dark old song. I think you'd like it. Here are the lyrics in full:

Get down, get down, little Henry Lee
And stay all night with me
You won't find a girl in this damn world
That will compare with me
And the wind did howl and the wind did blow
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee

I can't get down and I won't get down
And stay all night with thee
For the girl I have in that merry green land
I love far better than thee
And the wind did howl and the wind did blow
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee

She leaned herself against a fence
Just for a kiss or two
And with a little pen-knife held in her hand
She plugged him through and through
And the wind did roar and the wind did moan
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee

Come take him by his lily-white hands
Come take him by his feet
And throw him in this deep deep well
Which is more than one hundred feet
And the wind did howl and the wind did blow
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee

Lie there, lie there, little Henry Lee
Till the flesh drops from your bones
For the girl you have in that merry green land
Can wait forever for you to come home
And the wind did howl and the wind did moan
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee

Those are the lyrics from the Nick Cave version. Like a lot of traditional songs, the lyrics have probably changed from time to time over the years.

ooc: if you can find it to download online, I highly recommend it, and all of Nick Cave's songs. It's absolutely beautiful.

1. I have no idea how to dance.
2. You're one of the few people who I feel I can trust
3. Sometimes I wonder if your charm is hiding something you're afraid to show me
4. You know I'll catch you if you choose to fall, or jump.
5. Behind Blue Eyes, the Who
No one knows what its like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what its like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams
They arent as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
Thats never free

No one knows what its like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through

But my dreams
They arent as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
Thats never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

If I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
If I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what its like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

6. About your age
7.Not long enough
8. I don't think you need one, Doctor.

I trust you. You trust me. How astonishing. Yet you still find me charming! Charm is mere politeness. If you find me so, I am likely hiding a great deal. And you are my age. The Who song fits me well. Does it fit you? No, that is musing. I actually do need a hint though I am sure I should be ashamed to.

Severus. *John smiles, pleased, though there is a little guilt in it* I am ashamed to have needed a hint. You trust me. That is astonishing. And I trust you. That is astonishing as well. Minds are complicated and it is more difficult to involuntarily reveal than to involuntarily hide, but I think more of you than to hide what I hide from most. It will surely unfold. The song suits both of us admirably. It would have been a sure clue, but it describes me as well.

The song is clever and indeed eloquent. As far as it goes, I am at your service.

You are much better at this than I. It was confounding.

Would you like a drink, Severus? May I call you Severus? It has surely not been long enough. You can extract whatever I am hiding. And I can read your eyes.

*smiles, curious and with some small yet still cool amount of anticipation, looking out at Snape from his perspective as from a window, parting the curtains*

near the end of book four now. john wishes very much to talk. and listen. your writing and vision is very fine.

Severus Snape
*blinks, surprised* ...of course, Doctor. And yes, I would like a drink. But only for the company, I'll decipher your secrets when we've known each other better.

Thank you. I'm afraid my version of Severus is a little...softer then canon. I adore your John. Severus is quite...enamored.

Excellent. *smiles, pleased*

http://john-h-holliday.livejournal.com/37369.html

clearly, as he has actually accepted. but I've not really a clear canon view. it is your Severus to whom we are speaking. John seems more mild than he was, but that is only because this is not the old west and he is never provoked. John is intrigued and impressed. possibly enamoured also.

John Henry Holliday, DDS: Prescott eyes

"You have smiled, and I have told you the truth to the best of my ability. Your fist has not clenched yet that I could be present to open it. But, more to the point, I see you have put your fingers down your own throat, my friend." John looks quizzically at him. Tell me. He offers a thick heavy wool blanket, and his own fur-trimmed winter coat. "I still admire and trust you, and I am listening to your accounts. I feel an inexplicable desire to tell you a story about my old friend Billy Leonard. How are you?"

John is nothing if not tenacious. It took years for him to get Wyatt to return his interest in kind. If he is bothering you yourself, just let us know. We realise, of course, that John is not from the HP world, but he is happy to fit in there with Severus at least. It is possibly less strange than him than the modern world - electricity is as magic to him anyway.

A secret: Sometimes I still feel hatred.
A compliment: Best-dressed man in town.
A non-compliment: Your eyes are still sad, sometimes.
A love note: 'Be back soon'
Lyrics:
This is how it works
You're young until you're not
You love until you don't
You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath

--No, this is how it works
You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else's heart
Pumping someone else's blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get harmed
But even if it does
You'll just do it all again

Age: As old as I feel
Friends: Quite a while
Hint: Tell me if you need one, John.
